Cadets Week Launch Event Celebrates Young Leaders at Peel Regional Police Headquarters

The Peel Regional Police Headquarters served as a vibrant backdrop on October 5th as it hosted the 3rd Annual Ceremonial Review in honor of Ontario Cadets Week. The Executive Director of the Army Cadet League of Canada (Ontario), Paul Preikschas welcomed a diverse audience, including community leaders, dignitaries, and enthusiastic cadets, all united in celebrating the remarkable achievements of Ontario’s youth in the cadet program.
In his opening remarks, Paul Preikschas acknowledged the significance of the day, emphasizing the impact of cadet programs on personal development and community service. He also informed attendees of the ceremonial 25lb howitzer that would fire three rounds throughout the event, adding a sense of tradition and excitement.
A special highlight was the presence of notable VIPs, including Maxim Laviolette, the top Army Cadet in Ontario for 2024, and former MPP Toby Barrett, who served as the reviewing officer. Barrett, a key advocate for Cadets Week legislation, expressed his pride in the cadet program, underscoring the importance of fostering leadership skills in youth.
The ceremony featured the arrival of the Guard of Honour, followed by the March Past of the cadets, showcasing their discipline and dedication. Attendees were also introduced to the Cadets Week Proclamation, which highlights the significance of cadet programs in developing skills like leadership, teamwork, and citizenship.
A series of speeches followed, recognizing exceptional contributions from various individuals. Chief Warrant Officer Maxim Laviolette, who received the President’s Trophy for being Ontario’s most outstanding Army Cadet, shared her inspiring journey through the program, reflecting on the mentors who influenced her path.
The Honourable Charles Sousa, MP for Mississauga Lakeshore, also took the stage to present Coronation Medals to several individuals recognized for their extraordinary service to the Army Cadet League of Canada. This recognition underscores the community’s appreciation for those who dedicate their time to nurturing future leaders.
As the ceremony drew to a close, attendees participated in a general salute, honouring the commitment of the cadets and the support from local organizations and businesses that made the event possible.
The day it was culminated with the ceremonial firing of the howitzer, signaling the official start of Cadets Week. Preikschas encouraged everyone to continue supporting the cadet programs that play a crucial role in shaping the leaders of tomorrow.
